Today I found out I won $5,000 and got my first short story published! It's not the New York Times but I made it out of high school! Just what I needed to let me know this move was worth it! This is great for two reasons: 1) $5,000 towards delaying eternal hiding from my landlord 2)Making friends will be easier now that hoards of fans will be running toward me. Jokes aside, check out the short story here. The "Cuckoo's Calling" is a private detective story highlighting a socialite's mysterious death. It is my first non-magical piece and something that was really fun to get behind.
My best friend Laurie's (aka Teddy) family was the inspiration for the socialites, something he totally picked up on and thankfully laughed as hard as I did. Since we first met when we were 12 I said Amy and Teddy should switch families. Where Amy wishes to be Marie Antoinette, his grandfather still believes in the idea of "old money". Him and Great Aunt March are announcing their plan to take down the March family any day. Teddy was "forced" to the Ivy leagues, boo hoo. I only wish I was rooming around Yale and Oxford with him. Teddy only wants to roam. Well if that boy is good for nothing else, at least he helped me get a prize!
